Vol. 46 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Printing in Mullingar.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the Town Clerk of Mullingar has printed on a Gestetner machine, the property of the Mullingar Town Commissioners, circulars and entry forms for the Westmeath Point-to-Point Meeting, thereby depriving local printers of work; and (2) if he will make an order forbidding the use of such machines for such purposes in future in the offices of local authorities.

(1) I have no information as to the matter raised by the Deputy. (2) It is primarily a matter for the local authority concerned to take any steps necessary to prevent abuse of their property.

Is the Minister aware that the town clerk who has done this work for the persons I suggest in the question, namely, the committee of the Westmeath Point-to-point Meeting, is also secretary to the local point-to-point committee and secretary of two other bodies operting in this area, and will he take steps to ensure that, in view of the unemployment amongst clerical workers, this gentleman will be confined to the work for which he is partly paid out of public funds?
