Vol. 47 No. 1

Application for Private Bill. - Vote 46—Primary Education.

Resolved:—
Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar £2,264,946 chun slánuithe na suime is gá chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1934, chun Costaisí Bun-Oideachais, maraon le Deontaisí i gCabhair do Chiste Phinsin na Múinteoirí.
That a sum not exceeding £2,264,946 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1934, for the expenses of Primary Education, including Grants-in-Aid of the Teachers' Pension Fund.—(Minister for Education.)

The Minister did not reply to the strictures I passed regarding lady married teachers. I asked the Minister to indicate the future policy in that regard, because from a circular issued by the Department I see that lady teachers must retire on marriage in the vocational branch of the service.

I think Deputy Anthony should be aware that it is proposed to apply the rule regarding married women teachers as from the 1st October, 1933. The rule will not apply to those already teaching, or who become qualified as a result of an examination held prior to that date; for example, teachers who complete training during the present year.
