Vol. 47 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal's Claim to Beet Sugar Factory.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in the event of the Government deciding to promote the manufacture of beet sugar in centres other than Carlow, he will consider the claims of County Donegal to be one of the new manufacturing centres.

The possibility of extending the Beet Sugar Industry in the Saorstát is still under consideration and it is not possible at this stage to make any statement as to the possible sites of new factories.

The question is perfectly clear. I am asking the Minister if he will take precautions to consider the special claims of Donegal, if and when he is considering extending the industry. I will ask the Minister in that connection to consult the Secretary of the Department of Lands and Fisheries.
