Vol. 47 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remission of Loans on Fishing Boats.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will consider the question of completely remitting the £9,000 balance of arrears due at foot of loans on fishing boats advanced by the Fisheries Department, owing to the total inability of the borrowers to repay such sum now or in the future consequent on the failure of the fishing on the coasts.

I am not satisfied that the circumstances justify a complete remission of these debts to the public such as the Deputy suggests. Each case will be considered and dealt with on its merits.

In response to wishes from the opposite side it is proposed that, when the Financial Resolutions are passed, progress will be reported and the House will adjourn.

Private Deputies' business not to be taken.
