Vol. 47 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reconstruction of Premises Claim.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state why Margaret Clear, Moneyshinawn, Shinrone, has not yet received a grant for the reconstruction of her premises; and if he is aware that the work has been completed since November, 1932, and that the Department has been notified.

It is regretted that some unavoidable delay has occurred in dealing with applications for grants for reconstruction of houses—this has been due to the very large number of cases and need for proper inspection before payments can be made. The staff of inspectors has been increased and every effort will be made to deal with all cases as promptly as possible.

Does that refer generally to the delay in dealing with applications for grants for the reconstruction of houses, because there have been a great many such delays?

Yes; but there has been an enormous number of applicants, between 20,000 and 30,000, and a very considerable number have been dealt with by the six new inspectors who have been appointed.

The complaint has been very general.

Yes, that is so.
