Vol. 47 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Butter.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that as a result of the operation of the Agricultural Produce (Price Stabilisation) Act, 1932, Dublin butter consumers are at present being forced to pay approximately 7d. per lb. more for Irish butter than the consumer in England has to pay for Irish butter, and if he will state for what period it is intended that such difference in price shall be maintained.

I am aware that there is a considerable difference between the price payable by Dublin consumers for Irish butter and that payable by the consumer in England, but it is not as great as stated.

As long as butter prices which represent less than the cost of production continue in England, it will be necessary to secure that the home price shall be higher.
