Vol. 48 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Employees.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will furnish a return showing the number of persons, pensionable, non-pensionable and temporary, employed in the service of the State on the 1st of March, or nearest date thereto, for the years 1931, 1932 and 1933, exclusive of those employed on relief schemes.

It is assumed that the question has reference to the Civil Service. The particulars as regards the Civil Service are as follows:—

Pensionable

Non-Pensionable (including Temporary Officers)

1st January, 1931

10,350

12,067

1st January, 1932

10,634

11,951

2nd January, 1933

10,778

12,152

The information available does not permit of a distinction being made between purely temporary staffs and non-pensionable staffs. The figures given in respect of non-pensionable personnel do not include (a) persons employed on relief schemes, (b) persons employed on a fee basis, and (c) artisans, labourers, etc., employed on schemes or works of a temporary nature, other than relief schemes.
