Vol. 49 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sausage Exports from Saorstát.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the value and quantities in the most recent three or six months' period for which the figures are available of Saorstát exports to countries other than Great Britain of sausages and/or delicatessen; (b) the number of people employed (1) in the Saorstát, and (2) in County Kildare in the manufacture of sausages, and/or delicatessen in each of the months, January to July (inclusive), 1933; (c) if there is any manufactory of sausages and/or delicatessen in the Saorstát which has attached to it as a subsidiary the industry of tanning, and (d) if it is the intention of the Government to grant a subsidy to any national enterprise of the type of a sausage factory?

The answers to the Deputy's queries are as follows:—

(a) During six months January— June, 1933, 16 cwts. of sausages valued at £61 were exported to Belgium. Particulars of exports of delicatessen are not available.

(b) The information sought is not available.

(c) Not that I am aware of.

(d) No application for a subsidy has been received.

Are we to say R.I.P. to the factory?

Much I am sure to the Deputy's delight.

No. It is a question of a wash-out after the Minister's blow-out.

The closing of factories was a regular and normal happening during the Deputy's term of office.

They never went so quickly as after one visit by the Minister.

Ask Deputy Cosgrave about that.

Next question.

Tell us something about the money you pilfered now.

Is that question on the Order Paper?

It is not an orderly question, nor is it on the Order Paper.
