Vol. 49 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cottage Industries Instructress for Eyeries.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware that in Eyeries, County Cork, a house was taken two years ago for the purpose of a centre for instruction in cottage industries: that rent has been paid for it and no use made of it ever since as no instructress has been sent there, though an undertaking was given in the Dáil a year ago that one would be sent in a few weeks; if a definite assurance can now be given that this waste of money and the neglect of that district will forthwith come to an end, and if an instructress will be sent there without further delay.

The delay in opening an industrial centre at Eyeries has been due solely to the scarcity of trained manageresses. Girls from the Gaeltacht have for some time been in training for these duties and it is hoped to assign one of them to Eyeries at a very early date.
