Vol. 50 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Market for Stall-fed Cattle.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what steps he proposes to take to find a market for the stall-fed cattle which the mixed tillage farmers of County Wexford have on their hands and will have on their hands when the British quota for fat cattle has been filled.

The matter referred to is at present under investigation. I am not therefore in a position to make any statement.

There will be a surplus. What the farmers are going to do with it is what they want to know.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, is the House to understand and is the country to understand that no information is yet available on this important matter which has been engaging—we have been told, by interviews and public declarations in the Press—the attention of the Minister for over a month? I know that the Minister pretended to know a fortnight ago——

The Deputy may not make a speech in the guise of a Supplementary Question.

I just want to add that the Minister pretended to know a fortnight ago the number that would be on the feeders' hands. Now the Minister stands up and says he does not know.

I asked a question and did not get an answer.
