Vol. 50 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Postmaster at Kilmacow (Waterford).

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether Mr. Hurley, who was recently appointed postmaster at Kilmacow, Co. Waterford, has a competent knowledge of Irish; and, if not, why the application of Thomas Carroll, who has a competent knowledge of Irish, was rejected in favour of that of Mr. Hurley.

A competent knowledge of Irish was not an essential qualification for the appointment of sub-postmaster of Kilmacow, an office which is not within the Gaeltacht. Neither of the candidates mentioned in the question has a competent knowledge of Irish.

I wonder will the Minister for Finance tell Seán Og O Ceallaigh that?

I think you had better talk to him.
