Vol. 50 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Police and Attack on Dublin Men.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state if he received any Gárda or other report concerning an attack made in Dublin on or about the 6th October, 1933, on H. Doyle and J. C. Mulvey; if he is aware that both these men were detained in a Dublin hospital owing to the head injuries received by them in this attack; if any investigations followed, and if any result has been achieved or is expected.

I have received a report upon the matters referred to in the question. Both men were discharged from the hospital after treatment. The matter was actively investigated, but no person has been made amenable for the assault.

Is the Minister aware that these people were beaten about the heads with sticks from which nails were protruding?

The evidence of the two men concerned does not state that there were nails in the sticks.

Did the Minister get an indication from the hospital of the wounds for which they were treated? Were they compatible with the type of wound caused by sticks with nails protruding? Does he know that the men state that was the fact?

They did not state that.

Did the Guards ask them? I suppose they were warned off, like Parnell Square.
