Vol. 50 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost-of-Living Index Figure

asked the Minister for Finance whether the Government has yet given full consideration to the Report of the Committee of Inquiry into the Cost-of-Living Index figure, and, if so, with what result.

The only material point arising on the Committee's Report on which the Government's decision has not yet been given, is that referred to in Paragraphs 49 and 65 (6) in regard to the undertaking of a fresh budget inquiry. This matter is still under consideration. The decision upon it will not be taken until, as required by the approved procedure in such matters, the views of the Civil Service by means of discussion at the Civil Service Representative Council are available.

Am I to understand from the Minister that the bodies which are not affiliated with the Civil Service, which are not represented on the Civil Service Representative Council, but which number three or four times the numerical strength of bodies which are, will not be denied an opportunity of submitting their views in advance of any decision on the part of the Government?

I am afraid that does not arise on this question.

Will the Minister bear it in mind?
