Vol. 51 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Savings under Temporary Economics Act.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what amount has been saved up to date under the Public Services (Temporary Economics) Act, 1933, and what proportion of the amount so saved was in respect of National Teachers' salaries and emoluments.

It is not possible at this stage of the financial year to ascertain the amount actually saved up to date under the Act referred to. The amount of the deductions made up to the 31st December, 1933, (the latest date up to which information is available) from the pay of the services to which the Act applies is £207,000 approximately. Of this amount, £156,000 represents deductions from the salaries and emoluments of national teachers.
