Vol. 51 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The Unemployment Insurance Acts.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he can state the total cost, under all heads, of administering the Unemployment Insurance Acts for each of the three years 1929/30, 1930/31, 1931/32, and the estimated cost in the current financial year.

The cost of administering the Unemployment Insurance Acts, including the Labour Exchanges Act, 1909, in the years 1929/30—1931/32 was as follows:—

£

1929/30

143,044

1930/31

137,780

1931/32

135,434

and the cost for 1933/34 is estimated at £155,600. The work under the Labour Exchanges Act, 1909, is an integral part of the system of unemployment insurance and there is no satisfactory method of distinguishing its cost from that of the system in general.
