Vol. 51 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Insurance Benefit.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the cause of the delay in paying unemployment insurance benefit to Mr. John Davis, Upper William Street, Athy, County Kildare, whose claim for benefit has been lodged for some time past.

According to the records of my Department, it appears that Mr. John Davis, Upper William Street, Athy, Unemployment Book number Athy/3027, has not in recent years lodged a claim to unemployment benefit. If Mr. Davis is at present unemployed it is open to him to lodge a claim to benefit.

Is the Minister aware that Mr. Davis states that he has been informed by the manager of the local branch of the unemployment exchange that his claim for benefit was under consideration?

I think Mr. Davis may be confusing a claim for benefit with an application made by him to have the question of the insurability of certain employment in which he was involved determined under Section 10 of the Act.
