Vol. 51 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Operations of Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1927.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state (a) the number of licensed premises that have been closed under the provisions of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1927, from the date of the passing of the Act up to the end of 1933; (b) the amount of the compensation which has been paid to the former licensees, and (c) the number of licences that have lapsed in the same period irrespective of the operation of the Act.

(a) 299 licences were abolished on compensation under the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1927. (b) £50,647 16s. 6d. was paid in compensation to the persons interested. (c) Exact information on this point is not available in my Department, but it would appear that in the year 1932 there were 609 fewer applications for renewals than in 1928. The figures for 1933 are not yet in my possession.
