Vol. 51 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - House-Building in Roscommon.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (1) the total number of certificates of approval granted in County Roscommon to private persons for building houses under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932; (2) the total number in which final certificates have been issued; (3) the total number in which grants have been actually paid, and what period of time is allowed to pass between the issuing of final certificates and payment of the grants.

(1) The total number of certificates of approval granted in County Roscommon to private persons for building houses under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932, is 220.

(2) The total number in which final certificates have been issued is 96.

(3) The total number in which grants have been paid is 141. In the case of 74 houses the final grants have been paid and instalments have been paid in respect of 67 other houses.

Claims for instalments of grants are paid almost immediately on receipt in the Department if all the requirements of the Acts and the regulations have been complied with. In the case of claims for final grants arrangements are made as soon as possible for the inspection of the houses by the Department's engineering inspectors and on receipt of their reports payment is made without delay if the requirements have been complied with.

Did I understand the Minister to say that the total number of cases in which final certificates have been issued is 96?

And that the total number in which grants have been paid is 141?

Does that mean payment in part or in whole?

In part or in whole.

Has the Minister had any complaints with regard to the payments?

In Roscommon?

I may have, but I cannot remember any particular one.

I have had very serious complaints.
