Vol. 51 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reconstruction of Houses in Roscommon

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (1) the total number of certificates of approval granted in County Roscommon to persons for reconstruction of houses under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932; (2) the number in which final certificates of completion have been issued; and (3) the total number in which grants have been actually paid and if any complaints have reached his Department concerning delays in making payment of the grants.

(1) The total number of certificates of approval granted in County Roscommon to persons for reconstruction of houses under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932, is 162.

(2) The total number in which final certificates of completion have been issued is 14.

(3) The total number in which grants have been paid is 31. In the case of 14 houses final payments have been made and in addition instalments have been paid in respect of 17 houses. Representations have been made from time to time regarding the delay in dealing with applications for grants for reconstruction but in many cases the delay was found to be due to the failure on the part of applicants to supply the necessary information required to determine their eligibility to receive grants under the Act. In other cases the delay was due to the practical difficulties experienced in investigating the large number of applications received.

Would the Minister say again if he has received any complaints with regard to payments of grants—delay in respect of the final certificate and not in respect of the first certificate?

There has been delay, yes.

I know of one case in respect of which it is over six months since I got notification of the final certificate and payment has not yet been made.

If the Deputy will be good enough to supply me with the particulars I shall have them looked into.
