Vol. 51 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trustee Securities.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the demand on the part of trustees and organisations which are required to invest money under their control in trustee securities for an extension of the list of such trustee securities; and, if so, whether it is his intention to introduce proposals for legislation for this purpose.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative, and as to the second part, I would direct the attention of the Deputy to my speech last August in the Seanad on the Approved Investments Bill, in the course of which I pointed out that it was anticipated that the committee to be appointed under that Act would be requested to act also as a committee of inquiry to examine into the question of investments in ordinary trustee funds, with a view to recommending legislation on the point. The committee referred to has now been set up, and, as I have already said, it is hoped that when the committee has had some experience of the nature of the funds concerned, and of the nature of the investments which are available, it may be able to make recommendations which will enable such legislation as may be necessary to be introduced in due course.
