Vol. 51 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Harbour Constable's Gratuity.

asked the Minister for Finance if a communication was sent in October, 1933, to the Harbour Master, Dun Laoghaire, that a gratuity of £80 had been awarded to Harbour Constable William John O'Keeffe, for service which terminated in September, 1933; if he will state on what grounds this gratuity was reduced to £72 14s., and if the deduction was made by the Department of Finance.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. No deduction was made from the gratuity awarded to Mr. O'Keeffe, which was the maximum permissible under the Superannuation Act, 1887.

Am I to understand that it is incorrect to state that a communication was sent to the Board of Works intimating that the gratuity was £80?

It is absolutely incorrect.
