Vol. 51 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Bog.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the present position of the Land Commission concerning repeated applications for the acquisition, division and drainage of Cahir Bog, Coolrain, Mountrath, County Laoighis; whether the bog has been acquired; what amount has been allocated for improvement work; and when the scheme is likely to be put into operation.

The Deputy will remember that the Land Commission endeavoured to acquire this and other bogs on the Major Stubber estate some couple of years ago but that their offer was refused. The case is now in hands again and the Commissioners are considering the question of acquisition proceedings having regard to recent legislation.

Am I to understand from that reply that it is the intention of the Commissioners to acquire and divide this bog under the Act of 1933?
