Vol. 51 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Promotions Amongst Employment Staffs.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is a fact that a number of employment officers and employment clerks employed in the employment branch of the Department of Industry and Commerce with from 14 to 22 years' service have recently been passed over for promotion to the staff officer grade, and, if so, if he will state the reasons.

The claims of all serving officers who were eligible for promotion to the posts which the Deputy has in mind were fully considered and the promotions which have taken place were given to those in respect of whom I was satisfied, with the concurrence of the Minister for Finance, that they were the best qualified in all respects for promotion. Certain employment officers and employment clerks in the employment branch with from 14 to 22 years' service in that branch were passed over either on the grounds of capacity or of health.

Will the Minister say how many of these in the employment branch have been promoted?

Eighty-six.
