Vol. 52 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Alleged Poaching in Bantry Bay.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that owing to the inadequate coast patrol for the protection of our sea fisheries two specially fitted out trawlers for inshore fishing have been sent from Milford Haven and are operating with impunity for some time past along the northern shore of Bantry Bay from Black Ball Head to Crow Head; that the names of these vessels are quite familiar to the local Gárda, but that they have no means of boarding them; and if the Minister will take special steps for the apprehension of the two trawlers in question.

Reports of alleged illegal trawling off the south-west coast have been received by my Department. When the preparations now in hands for enforcement of the provisions of the Sea Fisheries Protection Act, 1933, have been completed the area in question will have special attention.
