Vol. 52 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Publication of Original Works in Irish.

asked the Minister for Education whether he can state what original works in Irish were accepted for publication by his Department in the years 1931, 1932 and 1933 respectively; which of the works so accepted have been published; and what is the cause of the delay in the publication of the others.

The following figures show (1) the number of original works accepted during each of the years in question and (2) the number of such works already published:—

Of the 54 books not yet published 44 are at present in course of printing. The other ten (only one of which was received before 1932) will, it is expected, be released for printing this year.

Having regard to the difficulties incidental to the editing and proofreading of books in Irish, I do not think that there has been any unreasonable delay in dealing with these books or with any one of them.

Are we to understand that all the books accepted will be published?
