Vol. 53 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance Application

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his Department is aware of the fact that unemployment assistance has been refused to James Loughran of Keenogue, Duleek, County Meath; and, if so, whether he will state the grounds on which this application was so refused.

There is no record of an application for unemployment assistance, under the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933, having been made by James Loughran of Keenogue, Duleek, County Meath.

There is, however, a record of a workman of that name and address having lodged a claim to unemployment benefit on the 12th February, 1934. That claim was disallowed by the insurance officer on the ground that the claimant was not unemployed. The claimant appealed to the Court of Referees and his case, having been considered by the Court and by the insurance officer, was referred to the Umpire, who decided that the claim to benefit must be disallowed.

The Umpire's decision is final and conclusive.
