Vol. 53 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Search of Tipperary House.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state whether the house of Daniel Ryan, St. Patrick's Avenue, Tipperary, was searched by detectives on the 17th February last; and, if so, if he will state what was the result of the search; whether any articles were removed by the detectives; whether any persons were arrested and charged and, if so, with what result.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. I am not prepared to give any further information in the matter as police inquiries are still proceeding and the matter will probably come before the courts.

Is the Minister aware that the incidents referred to took place on the 17th February? Is he also aware that a Parabellum and a Webley, together with a certain amount of gelignite and other detonating materials, were found in the house, and will he say why no action is taken in a case like this, while in a case, like that of the Dwyer case, where weapons were found in a garage, and although the man repudiated entirely having anything to do with them, he is charged before a military court?

I think the Deputy knows that we have been trying to get this individual. He knows the circumstances with regard to the difficulty in bringing this case before the court.

I do not. In view of the seriousness of the case, I should like to know what exactly the Minister's difficulty is, because, on the face of it, there is a very partial administration of justice in relation to very serious matters if we are to take things as they are and without any explanation from the Minister as to what his difficulties are.

This person will be brought to justice as soon as we can deal with him.
