Vol. 53 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gárda and the Use of Arms.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state whether he has further inquired into the statement made by a Chief Superintendent of the Gárda Síochána before the Naas District Court on the 23rd May, to the effect that police orders were that if arms were produced by the police they were to use them, and use them with deadly effect; and whether he has advised the Chief Superintendent that he incorreutly interpreted his orders; and if he will state whether he has issued such instructions generally to the Gárda as will prevent danger to life by any such serious misinterpretation of orders in future.

I have drawn the attention of the Commissioner of the Gárda Síochána to this question with a view to the issue by him of instructions on the point if he considers such a course necessary.
