Vol. 53 No. 12

Business of Dáil.

When the business of the day is concluded the Dáil will adjourn until Wednesday, 18th July.

I should like to ask the President, in respect of the adjournment which he adumbrates, is it his intention to introduce 16 new Bills between now and the time the House rises for the Summer Recess and, if it is his intention to do that, or to bring 16 new Bills before the House for consideration on the Second Reading Stage, does he suggest that it is a physical possibility for this House to discuss them or to give them the consideration which they ought to have?

I think all that matter has been communicated officially by the Whips.

I am raising the matter in the presence of the House because I wish to submit respectfully to the House that, if that is the President's intention, the real intention he has is to suspend parliamentary government in the country and to ram 16 new Bills through the House in a period of time which gives the House no chance of discussing them.

Dr. Ryan

You can take three months if you wish.

There is no limitation on the period of time. The Dáil is adjourning for two weeks to enable certain Bills to be completed. The draftsman is at present engaged on them. It is a question for the convenience of the House and for the proper discharge of the work what time we will end.

Full time will be provided for the discussion of these 16 measures?

Any time that is required.

Twelve months, if you like.

We will have a nice summer.
