Vol. 53 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income Tax Allowances

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state approximately for the latest year for which the figures are available, the number of children over the age of 16 years in respect of whom a deduction from assessable income was allowed under the Income Tax Acts on the ground that they were receiving full-time instruction at an educational establishment and the number of such children who were receiving instruction at educational establishments outside of Saorstát Eireann.

I regret that the information asked for is not available. As the amount of the allowance is the same irrespective of whether a child is under 16 years of age, or, being over 16 years of age, is receiving full-time instruction at an educational establishment, the Deputy will understand that the need for segregation has not arisen.
