Vol. 54 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forestry Schemes.

asked the Minister for Lands if he proposes to have any planting done on the Leigh estate at Rosegarland, Wellingtonbridge, County Wexford.

The question is under consideration of acquiring for forestry purposes part of the lands of Rosegarland, County Wexford, the property of Mr. Francis Leigh, and negotiations with the owner are in progress. Until the acquisition of the lands has been completed, no arrangements can be made for planting operations.

Mr. Hogan

(Clare) asked the Minister for Lands if he will state when the Forestry Department proposes to start work on the Cregg and Derryoran districts where a survey has already been made, and if he will, in view of the extensive unemployment in these areas, take steps to have work commenced before Christmas.

The lands to which the Deputy refers have been inspected, and it has been ascertained that they are, to a large extent, unsuitable for State afforestation. It is proposed, however, to have another inspection made before coming to a final decision in the matter.
