Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Councils and Rates.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the rate made by county councils for the ordinary expenditure in respect of roads, county services, health district charges, and poor relief for the year ended the 31st March, 1935; the abatement of rates in the pound for the Agricultural Grant; and the total rate made on other hereditaments and agricultural lands respectively.

The answer to the question is in the form of a table which will be circulated in the Official Report.

Following is the table:—

RETURN SHOWING RATES MADE BY EACH COUNTY COUNCIL FOR THE ORDINARY EXPENDITURE FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST MARCH, 1935, IN RESPECT OF ROADS, COUNTY SERVICES, HEALTH DISTRICT CHARGES AND I COR RELIEF, THE TOTAL OF SUCH RATES MADE ON OTHER HEREDITAMENTS, THE ABATEMENT OF RATES ON AGRICULTURAL LAND AND THE NET RATE ON FIRST £20 VALUATION OF AGRICULTURAL LAND. THE AMOUNTS ARE SHOWN TO THE NEAREST TENTH OF A PENNY.

NOTE:

(a) Col. 7. Primary Allowance shows the abatement of rates in the £ on the first £20 of land valuation and on the whole land valuation where it is less than £20.

(b) Col. 8. The Employment Allowance shows the abatement allowed on the part of the valuation exceeding £20 if persons were at work on the holding during the period 1st April to 31st December, 1933. For each person an abatement on a valuation of £12 10s. 0d. at the rate shown is allowed provided the allowance is not given on more than the whole of the valuation above £20.

(c) Col. 9. Supplementary Allowance shows the abatement of rates in the £ on the part of the land valuations exceeding £20 which was not entitled to the Employment Allowance.
