Vol. 54 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Exports to Germany.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state for each of the years 1932, 1933 and (estimated) 1934, the number of cattle exported to Germany, the average price secured in each of these years for such cattle, the amount of bounty or other Government aid paid in each of these years in respect of such exports and the names of the persons who have acted as agents for either the whole or the greater part of such exports, and if any estimate can be made of the profits secured by such agents in respect of such exports.

Dr. Ryan

No cattle were exported to Germany in the year 1932. The number exported to Germany in 1933 was 6,005, and in 1934, up to date, 6,012. The cattle were bought at the market rates current at the time of purchase and the usual rates of bounty were paid. The bounties in respect of exports in 1933 amounted to £10,495 15s. 0d., and in respect of exports in the current year to £9,336 10s. The cattle were purchased and exported by Messrs. Crowley and Fasenfeld. I have no information as to the profits of the exporters.
