Vol. 54 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The Coal-Cattle Agreement.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, under the newly-arranged coal-for-cattle agreement arrived at with the British Government there is any stipulation as to the relative proportions of fat cattle and store cattle to be shipped.

Under the arrangement referred to by the Deputy the quotas for cattle in 1935 will be increased in all categories by 33? per cent. over the quotas for 1934.

Is the Minister not aware that in County Wexford and in every tillage county a large number of small farmers are feeding one, two and three cattle and these men are denied inspection? They are all small farmers —the men who, the Government say, are their friends.

That does not arise out of this question.

It should arise out of some question, anyway. Deputies may laugh, but what are these small farmers to do with their cattle? Are they to make bacon of them and hang them up in the chimney?
