Vol. 54 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Cross-Channel Boats.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state if he has received information to the effect that the British and Irish Steampacket Company propose to get two new boats built for the Irish cross-Channel trade, and whether he has made any representations to the company with a view to getting the boats built in Dublin, and if so, if he will state the result of his representations.

I have seen the Press references to the building of two new boats for the British and Irish Steampacket Company and have been in communication with the company, who inform me that they are not considering the building of new boats at the moment.

Has the Minister asked the British and Irish Steampacket Company to let him know in case they do consider the building of new boats so that the matter may be discussed with them and thus keep that amount of work in the City of Dublin?

That is another question.
