Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Excise Duty on Pig Carcasses.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount of Excise duty paid between the 20th May, 1934, and the 31st December, 1934, or such later date for which the information is available, in respect of pig carcasses converted into bacon for sale; the total number of carcasses in respect of which such Excise duty was paid; and the total number of proprietors of premises for bacon manufacture by whom the duty was paid.

The total amount of Excise duty paid between 20th May, 1934, and the 31st December, 1934, in respect of pig carcasses and parts of pig carcasses converted into bacon for sale was £182,930. The total number of carcasses (and parts) in respect of which duty was paid was £639,848. The total number of proprietors in whose premises pig carcases (and parts) were used for conversion into bacon for sale was 146.
