Vol. 54 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Drainage of the River Suck.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that charging orders and schedules under seal were issued by the Board of Works to the Roscommon and Galway County Councils on the 28th April, 1934, in connection with drainage charges for work done by way of restoration on the River Suck in 1927; that previous to the issuing of these charging orders two conferences were held with the Board of Works on matters relating to this work and other outstanding matters; that no agreement was come to as a result of these conferences; that the Roscommon County Council, having to collect the two-thirds of the amounts levied, intimated its refusal on the 10th May, 1934, to comply with the charging order pending a settlement of the matters in dispute; that the Minister's letters of the 28th April and 16th May, 1934, suggested a further conference; that representatives were appointed by the Roscommon County Council on the 10th July, 1934, and conferred with Galway representatives on the 26th October, and the Minister informed of the proceedings; that up to the present no steps have been taken by the Minister to arrange a date to meet the council's representatives to have the outstanding matters settled before rates are assessed, and what steps he now proposes to take to remedy this state of affairs.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. It is hoped to meet a deputation from the two county councils at an early date.
