Vol. 55 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ruttledge Estate, County Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the amount paid by the Irish Land Commission for the Bloomfield demesne on the Ruttledge Estate, Hollymount, County Mayo; (b) the amount paid for Bloomfield House; (c) the amount realised by the Land Commission from the sale of Bloomfield demesne; (d) the amount realised from the sale of Bloomfield House; and (e) the area of the demesne land sold by the Land Commission to the purchaser of Bloomfield House.

(a) The price paid for the untenanted lands acquired on the estate of R. F. Ruttledge, S.1523, including Bloomfield House, was £7,800.

(b) The estate was purchased as a whole, and no part of the purchase money was apportioned on the buildings.

(c) The price paid for the estate as a whole has been fully recovered on resale.

(d) Bloomfield House and accommodation lands were advertised for sale. The highest tender received was £1,400, at which price the place was sold, £500 being paid in cash.

(e) The area sold with Bloomfield House was 128a. 2r. 12p.

Arising out of the answer, is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the Land Commission have lodged a claim with the Mayo County Council for £3,000 for premises which they have already sold and that the person who bought the premises for £1,400 has in the last week lodged a claim for £10,000 against the Mayo County Council in respect of this house?

I am aware the Land Commission have lodged a claim in respect of that. The house was insured by the Land Commission at the time of the handing over.

What was the idea of lodging a claim? They sold the house two years ago and got paid for it.

To make the ratepayers pay again.
