Vol. 55 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Co. Limerick Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state when sanction will be given to the application of the Newcastle West Town Commissioners for a loan to enable that body to proceed with their housing scheme.

On the 5th January, 1935, I sanctioned the borrowing by the Newcastle West Town Commissioners of a loan of £10,200 for the erection of 32 houses under the Housing of the Working Classes Acts. On the same date the Commissioners of Public Works were recommended to issue the loan from the Local Loans Fund. The Minister for Finance has now sanctioned the making of the advance from the Fund. The delay in issuing sanction in this case was due to the reluctance of the Minister for Finance to make further advances to the Town Commissioners owing to their failure to meet punctually their liabilities on existing loans.
