Vol. 55 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Terms of Coal-Cattle Pact.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state the precise terms of what is known as the Coal-Cattle Pact entered into between the Free State and Great Britain, and for what period this convention is to last.

As I stated in my reply to a question put by Deputy Micheál O Braonáin on the 13th February, the terms of the arrangement made with the British Government were that quotas for cattle in the year 1935 would be increased in all categories by 33? per cent. over the quotas for 1934 in return for increased purchases by the Saorstát of coal to an equivalent value.

Arising out of that reply, can the Minister say who signed that agreement?

There was no written agreement, and, therefore, no signature.
