Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Kilkenny Labourers' Cottages

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the cause of the delay in commencing the scheme for the erection of 400 labourers' cottages in County Kilkenny.

A Compulsory Purchase Order in connection with the scheme for the erection of 400 labourers' cottages in County Kilkenny was submitted to me for confirmation on the 6th October, 1934. The number of objections lodged against the Order amounted to 74, and a public local inquiry in the matter was held in December. Subsequently the inspector who held the local inquiry had to inspect each site proposed to be acquired in order to determine its suitability and had also to examine the existing housing accommodation of the applicants. Both the proposed sites and the applicants' present dwellings are scattered over a wide area and the proceedings involved a considerable amount of travelling and time. The report of the inspector is, now, practically complete, and I hope to be in a position to deal with the Compulsory Purchase Order at an early date.
