Vol. 59 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Cotton Goods.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of the year 1934 the quantity and value of (a) cotton piece goods, (b) made-up cotton household goods, (c) made-up cotton wearing apparel, (d) cotton thread, and (e) cotton handkerchiefs imported into the Saorstát.

Imports into Saorstát Eireann in the year 1934 of the undermentioned articles were as follows:—

£

Piece Goods of Cotton

sq. yds.

43,370,655

1,143,160

Cotton thread, finished

value

104,855

Cotton handkerchiefs

doz.

20,583

2,176

In consequence of the alterations made since 1932 in the Official Imports List descriptions under which imports are required to be declared it is not possible to state the amount or value of the imports of made-up cotton household goods. I am also unable to state the imports of made-up cotton wearing apparel as the different descriptions of imports of wearing apparel do not distinguish those of cotton.
