Vol. 59 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Annuity Statistics.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of (1) the November-December gale, 1933; (2) the May-June gale, 1934; (3) the November-December gale, 1934; and (4) the May-June gale, 1935, the total number of cases in which Land Commission annuities were collectable, the total amount of the annuities so collectable, distinguishing between the number and the amounts in the case of (a) annuities payable under the pre-1903 Act; (b) the 1903-1909 Acts; and (c) the 1923-1933 Acts; and if he will state in respect of each gale and distinguishing between land purchased under these three groups of Acts: the number of cases in which Land Commission annuities were fully paid by the 31st July, 1935, and the total amount of the moneys so paid; the number of cases in which part payments had been made, and the total amount so paid; the number of cases in respect of which warrants remained in the sheriff's hands on the 31st July, 1935, and the total amount of money represented by these warrants.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number of sheriffs' warrants issued by the Land Commission in the case of non-payment of land annuities in respect of (a) the November-December gale, 1933; (b) the May-June gale, 1934; (c) the November-December gale, 1934; (d) the May-June gale, 1935; the total amount of the money so collected in respect of each of these gales, which has been credited to the annuities, and the total amount of these annuity deficiencies still outstanding; and in how many cases in respect of each of these gales seizures were made, and in what number of these cases the seizures realised the full amount due; and if he will state in how many cases two or more seizures have been made.

I propose to take the Deputy's two questions together. The reply is in the form of two tabular statements which will be circulated in the Official Report. The statements set out such of the particulars asked for by the Deputy as can be readily ascertained. The accounts of the Land Commission are not kept in a manner to enable the other particulars asked for by the Deputy to be readily given, and their compilation would involve the expenditure of time and labour which could not be justified.

The statements are as follows:—

Would the Parliamentary Secretary kindly inform me what part of the question it is that he is not in a position to answer?

Perhaps it would be as well if the Deputy were to wait until he gets the written answer.

I should like to have that information now.

It is fully set out in the answer that I have read.

Has the Parliamentary Secretary any idea of what the answer contains?

Yes; I have read it for the Deputy.

I would like to have the blanks in it filled in.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (1) the total number of cases in which Land Commission annuities were paid by the 31st July, 1935, in respect of the May-June gale, 1935; and (2) the total amount of the moneys so received, distinguishing between the number and the amounts in the case of (a) annuities payable under the pre-1903 Act; (b) the 1903-1909 Acts; and (c) the 1923-1933 Acts.

Instalments of land purchase annuities paid at the 31st July, 1935, in respect of the May-June, 1935, gale under the Land Acts, 1881-1896, 1903-1909 and 1923-1933, amounted to £52,832, £245,889 and £126,203 respectively.

The accounts of the Land Commission are not kept in a manner to enable the other figures asked for by the Deputy to be readily given, and their compilation would involve an expenditure of time and labour which could not be justified.

Ordered: That Public Business be interrupted at 9 p.m. to take Deputies' Business.
