Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - House Building by Local Bodies.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state in respect of the 6,869 houses completed by local authorities by the 31st December, 1935, under Section 6 (1) (a) (i) of the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932-34, the total capital amount in respect of which the loan charges will be borne by the local rates.

The capital expenditure on these houses is estimated at £2,322,000 approximately. A State contribution to schemes under Section 6 (1) (a) (i) may, subject to the limits of costs laid down in the Housing (Loan Charges Contributions) Regulations, 1932, be made up to 66? per cent. of the annual loan charges. The total capital amount in respect of which the loan charges will be borne by the local authority may be taken as approximately one-third of the estimated cost subject to the application of receipts from tenants over and above the cost incurred by the local authority on management and upkeep.

The capital expenditure on these houses is estimated at £1,711,000 approximately. A State contribution to schemes under Section 6 (1) (a) (ii) may, subject to the limits of costs laid down in the Housing (Loan Charges Contributions) Regulations, 1932, be made up to 33? per cent. of the annual loan charges. The total capital amount in respect of which the loan charges will be borne by the local authority may be taken as approximately two-thirds of the estimated cost subject to the application of receipts from tenants over and above the cost incurred by the local authority on management and upkeep.
