Vol. 61 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stradbally (Laoighis) Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is yet in a position to sanction proposals for the provision of a water supply for Stradbally, County Leix; whether he is aware that the commissioner administering the affairs of the county council declines to repair the present dangerous condition of the streets of the town until the water supply scheme is installed, and whether he will now sanction the proposals for the waterworks or request the commissioner to carry out the necessary repairs to the streets of the town.

The reply to the first part of the question is in the negative. A lay-out plan was submitted to the Department in October last, but the spring source proposed appeared to be one of the sources the removal of water from which was objected to by local persons affected, as intimated in reply given to the Deputy on the 28th February, 1935. The matter was accordingly referred back for the consideration of the commissioner, and no further proposals have so far been received.

As regards the latter portion of the question, the Department is not aware that the position is as stated by the Deputy, but further inquiry will be made into the matter.

Does that mean that the Minister will ask one of his engineering inspectors to report as to the condition of the streets?

We are making further inquiries.
