The Land Commission have made an offer for the purchase of portion of the estate of the Laoighis County Board of Health at Ballinakill which the board intimated they were prepared to sell. Mr. Alley is in possession of 551 acres of land, and the Land Commission instituted proceedings for the acquisition of 175 acres of the lands of Kilcotton and Knockaroe, containing 130a. 2r. 10p. and 44a. 1r. 21p. respectively. Proceedings have been instituted by the Land Commission for the compulsory acquisition of the untenanted lands of Grantstown and Oldglass, containing 232a. 1r. 4p. and 70a. 1r. 0p. respectively, on the estate of Lord Castletown. The owner has lodged an objection to the acquisition by the Land Commission of part of these lands and this objection has not yet been heard.

In addition to the proceedings for the acquisition of untenanted land, authorisation has been obtained for the resumption of a holding of tenanted land on the estate containing 31a. 0r. 4p., and an application to the appeal tribunal to authorise the resumption of another holding containing 74a. 1r. 3p. is pending. At the present stage of the proceedings it is not possible to say when the lands may be acquired and divided nor to state the ultimate number of applicants for parcels of the lands.

The Land Commission have had an inspection made of the lands of Rossdarragh and Cappalinnan on the estate of Henry D. Kenny and have decided to institute proceedings for their acquisition, but at present it is not possible to state when the lands, if acquired, will be divided.

(Miss Staples), Durrow, County Leix; what portion, if any, is likely to be set aside for the relief of congestion, and if and when the division scheme will be put into operation and what portion, if any, is likely to be set aside for afforestation purposes.

If the lands are acquired it will be possible to set aside a considerable area for afforestation purposes.
