Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Aliens Employed by Electricity Supply Board.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of aliens to whom permits were granted to take up employment with the Electricity Supply Board, the positions in respect of which such permits were granted, the grounds on which they were issued, and the number of such permits now current.

Since the Electricity Supply Board was established, permits under the Aliens Orders, 1925 and 1935, have been granted in respect of the employment of 22 aliens by the board. These aliens were employed in the following capacities:—

Accountant

Station superintendent

1

Engineers

Translator of technical publications

1

Control room operators

2

Operatives for turbines and generators

3

Expert fitters and electricians

6

High tension linesmen

Specialists to investigate undersurface material and carry out laboratory and field tests at the head race at Ardnacrusha

These aliens were engaged by the board as they had the specialised knowledge and experience required. Only nine of these permits are now current.
