Vol. 63 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rate of Wages on Cottage Contract.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether his attention has been called to the fact that the contractor building cottages for the Kilkenny Board of Health at Thomastown, County Kilkenny, is not paying the standard rate of wages recognised in the district, whether he is aware that the commissioner administering the affairs of the county board of health has failed to secure that the contractor will pay the local rate of wages and whether he proposes to take action in the matter and, if so, whether he will indicate the nature of the action proposed.

There has been some difficulty in elucidating the facts of this case. Inquiries are pending and I will communicate with the Deputy when a decision will have been reached.

Will the Minister state whether as a result of his decision the arrears of wages will be paid?

I would like to wait until I get the complete report upon this case.
