Vol. 63 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyragget Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether his attention was directed to the report of the county medical officer of health in County Kilkenny concerning the condition of the water supply in Ballyragget; if he is aware that owing to the unsatisfactory condition of the water available in the district there was a serious outbreak of typhoid in Ballyragget last year; whether any proposals to provide a suitable water supply were submitted to him and, if so, what steps have been taken to have the work proceeded with; if no such proposals were submitted to him whether he can state if it is his intention to take any action arising out of the report of the county medical officer of health in the matter.

Three cases of typhoid fever occurred at Ballyragget last year and the local water supply was suspected to be the source of infection. The duty of providing a pure water supply devolves upon the Kilkenny Board of Health and Public Assistance and consequent on a report made by the county medical officer of health on the 21st March last to the commissioner acting as the board of health, the commissioner instructed the board's engineer to expedite the submission of a scheme for providing a satisfactory water supply for Ballyragget.

Inquiries have recently been made by the Department as to whether the requisite plans have been prepared, and a direction has been given that full working drawings in connection with the water supply scheme should be submitted to the Department not later than the 15th July, 1936.
