Vol. 63 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Branch Employment Offices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether it is proposed to abolish some of the existing branch employment offices of his Department and to convert them into employment exchanges, and, if so, will he state in the event of such offices being abolished whether the existing branch managers are likely to be replaced by officers already serving in the Employment Branch of his Department, and, if not, how does he propose to fill any vacancies that are likely to occur, and further if he will state what savings, if any, will arise as a result of the changes thus effected?

The establishment of employment exchanges at a number of centres at which branch employment offices at present exist is under consideration. The examination of the various aspects of the proposal has not progressed sufficiently far to enable me to give definite replies to the second and third parts of the question.
